Your Book Doesn't Start with Writing. It Starts with a Decision.

Every published work began the same way — someone chose to take the next step. TrustyReads exists for that exact moment, and every moment after it, until your book reaches readers.

Chapter One — The Raw Idea
Developmental Assessment

Before a single comma is moved, we read your manuscript end to end. Not for grammar — for story architecture. Does the argument hold? Does the narrative arc land? We deliver a 6–10 page editorial letter covering structure, pacing, voice consistency, and reader engagement. This isn't a line edit. It's the conversation your manuscript needs first.

"The editorial letter changed the entire direction of my second act. I'd been writing around the real story for three drafts." — Aoife K., literary fiction, Cork
Chapter Two — Precision Work
Line Editing & Copy Editing

Two distinct passes. Line editing refines your prose at the sentence level — rhythm, clarity, word choice, transitions. Copy editing catches inconsistencies, factual errors, and mechanical issues. We never merge these stages, because rushing one undermines the other. Your manuscript gets the patience it deserves.

Chapter Three — The Object
Cover Design & Interior Typesetting

A book is a physical (or digital) object. We design covers that respect genre conventions while standing apart on the shelf. Interior layout follows — typeface selection, margin ratios, chapter openers, running heads. For non-fiction, we handle tables, figures, indices, and footnotes with the same care.

"I showed the cover proof to my reading group and three of them asked where they could pre-order. That's when I knew." — Declan M., memoir, Galway
Chapter Four — Final Proof
Proofreading & Pre-Press Review

The last safety net. A dedicated proofreader — never the same person who edited your text — reviews the typeset pages for orphans, widows, hyphenation errors, and any remaining typos. We deliver a clean, print-ready or upload-ready file. No surprises after this stage.

Chapter Five — Into the World
Publishing & Distribution Guidance

Whether you're going through a traditional publisher, a hybrid press, or self-publishing via IngramSpark, KDP, or direct sales, we help you navigate metadata, ISBNs, pricing strategy, and platform setup. We don't publish for you — we make sure you understand every decision you're making.

From the Editorial Desk

We started TrustyReads because too many talented writers were getting lost between finishing a manuscript and holding a finished book. The middle ground — editing, design, production — is where most independent authors feel least confident. That's exactly where we work.

Our editors have backgrounds in trade publishing, academic presses, and literary journals. We've worked on debut novels, PhD-to-book conversions, poetry collections, children's picture books, and business non-fiction. The common thread isn't genre — it's care.

We don't offer "packages" because no two manuscripts arrive in the same condition. Instead, we assess where your book is and recommend the specific stages it needs. Sometimes that's a single proofread. Sometimes it's the full journey from developmental edit to distribution setup. Either way, you only pay for what your book actually requires.

"Most services tried to upsell me on things I didn't need. TrustyReads told me my manuscript only needed copy editing and a cover. That honesty earned my trust — and my next three projects." — Niamh R., non-fiction, Dublin

What We Don't Do

Frequently Asked

How long does a full editorial pass take?

It depends on manuscript length and the type of edit. A developmental assessment for a 80,000-word novel typically takes 10–14 working days. Line editing adds another 12–18 days. We always confirm timelines before starting.

Do you work with self-publishing authors only?

No. We work with authors pursuing traditional publishing, hybrid models, and self-publishing. Our editing and design services are valuable regardless of your publishing route.

Can I get a sample edit before committing?

Yes. We offer a complimentary sample edit of up to 1,500 words so you can evaluate our approach, tone, and attention to detail before any commitment.
